There are various brochures in the top
drawer in the main room. For those with small children, the Big
Sheep is a fun day out (http://www.thebigsheep.co.uk/)
and is very close.
Westward Ho! has crazy golf and a couple of
small go kart tracks.
Bideford offers the usual range of
entertainment with Barnstable being slightly bigger but also
slightly further away.
There are many fishing trips offered
locally. We’re not fishing people so can’t offer any experience
of these but they are 1 hour, two hour, half day and full day so
there must be some sport out there somewhere.
For visitors interested in
historic buildings,
Hartland Abbey is very close by
http://www.hartlandabbey.com and offers both a lovely old
building and gardens.
The nearest National Trust is Bideford Bay
and Hartland which we are yet to visit but according to the
website offers “A little-known but most beautiful stretch of
rugged cliffs, sheltered valleys and ancient woodlands”. The
link is

Trips to Lundy are also easy to find. The
main address for the most official tour is:
Lundy Shore
Office, The Quay, Bideford, Devon, EX39 2LY, Tel: 01271 863636
For cyclists, the Tarka Trail goes through
Bideford. It’s 180 miles long and runs circular through some of
North Devon's finest scenery. Various websites host information
on the trail, including
http://www.beautiful-devon.co.uk/tarka-trail.htm or
http://www.devon.gov.uk/tarkatrail.
There is loads of bird watching close by.
Baggy Point offers good national trust facilities including bird
watching.

There is a lovely walk along the coast to
the left of the apartment, past the beach huts, Nassau Court and
beyond. We’ve not yet got to the end of that walk but it’s at
least 5+ miles and we think much further, and all along the
coast.
There are various hill walking paths off to
the left which have great views, but can be a bit overgrown in
the Summer and will be quite steep in the Winter.
The actual cost path is very easy to follow
and quite flat.
Along the beach to the left is Saunton or
the Northam burrows are also popular walking areas.
Appledore is a lovely place
to visit, and is very close (3 or 4 miles).
There is a detailed OS map
in the apartment which also shows most of the most popular public walks.
The balcony gives a good view of the
surrounding area of course. The white building over the bay is
Saunton Sands Hotel, to the right is obviously Westward Ho! and
Lundy is about 5 miles out slightly to the left. |
